The EBU currently runs a Master Point scheme which provides a life time achievement ranking and reward system to our members. We hope to launch a new scheme measuring current playing ability within the next year; this is called the National Grading Scheme. Please keep a look out in English Bridge and on our website for further information about this initiative.

Education Development
We are committed to developing the game through education and learning as demonstrated by our free club teachers’ initiative, our subsidised club tournament director training and our recent consultation with counties on possible education projects and needs. We want to raise as much money as possible to invest in education. We are considering running a small scale lottery as governed by the Gambling Act 2005. EBU members could buy tickets with the chance of winning a monthly cash prize and an annual larger cash prize – the maximum amount of prize money that could be available in any one draw is £25,000 but this is obviously dependent on how many members take part, the price of the ticket and the number of tickets sold.
The money raised would be used for adult bridge education projects across England. However, running a lottery quite rightly involves checks and balances for compliance with the scheme and this would involve the EBU paying for these services to be undertaken on the Board’s behalf. So we need to know how many members would be interested in taking part in the scheme to determine whether it would be financially viable or not.

Regulating the game
The EBU is responsible for regulating the game of duplicate bridge in England. However they have received some feedback about the policy regarding the alerting of doubles and would like to ask you to tick your preferred option from the following list:
The current regulations should not be changed
We should change to a system where no doubles are alerted
We should change to a system where we alert only unusual doubles
