Hospitality sector tracker wins Media Pioneer award

28 May 2012 — Peach Business Tracker, an online sales barometer for the hospitality industry using technology developed by Demographix, has won the Media Pioneer award at the Specialist Media Show 2012 in Birmingham last week.

With the Coffer Group as its headline sponsor, the Peach Business Tracker (PBT) has established itself as the pub and restaurant sector's unique sales performance barometer, and is quoted reqularly by leading companies, analysts and national media, including The Times, Daily Telegraph and The Wall Street Journal.

Each month Peach collects and publishes aggregated sales data from 24 leading companies, between them representing £6.1bn of annual turnover. The data collection process is powered by Demographix and the methodology is overseen by KPMG.

Peach and Demographix worked together to overcome technological and managerial obstacles to establish the weekly and monthly data collections. PBT is now being further developed to provide even more granular data, including regional, covers, and food and drink splits.

"The weekly aggregated report is delivered just 3 days after weekly sales have closed providing invaluable real-time market sales data – previously unavailable to operators in the sector," said the Specialist Media Show in its citation.

"For publicly quoted companies the Tracker is now cited routinely during financial statements and city analysts use the data as a standard KPI to inform their recommendations to investors. Private equity funded companies use Tracker data to help maximize returns on exit and to benchmark prospects and potential acquisitions."
