11 Apr 2012 — One of the most common Helpdesk problems we encounter is users not seeing the changes they make in their surveys when they’re previewing them. Changes to the survey are saved, and sometimes even after the Update/Preview button has been pressed, the changes are not showing in the survey. This is because the user’s browser is serving the original version of the survey from its cache – a storage area that means it doesn’t need to get a fresh copy of a page on the internet for frequently accessed pages. If this happens, you can easily force your browser to get the new copy, though this varies between browsers and computers. Here’s a list we’ve compiled:
PC:
Internet Explorer: Press Ctrl-F5.
Chrome: Press Ctrl-F5 or Shift-Ctrl-R
Firefox: Press Ctrl-F5 or Shift-Ctrl-R
Safari: Press Ctrl-R
Mac:
Safari / Chrome / Firefox: Press Cmd-R
10 Apr 2012 — If you cannot see the changes you have made to the survey you’re building, then your browser is serving a cached version. One fix for this problem is to “hard refresh” the URL. An alternative quick fix for this problem is to clear all the cache files:
Internet Explorer: From the menu (if you can’t see it press Alt or F10) go to Tools > Internet Options > General > Browsing History > Delete. Ensure there’s a tick in ‘temporary internet files’ and click Delete.
Chrome: Click on the spanner in the top-right corner, go to Settings > Under the Bonnet/Hood > Clear Browsing Data. Ensure there’s a tick in "empty the cache" and click Clear Browsing Data.
Firefox (for the PC): From the menu (if you can’t see it press Alt or F10) go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Network. Under "cached web content" click on Clear Now.
Firefox (for the Mac): From the menu go to Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network. Under "offline storage" click on Clear Now.
Safari (for the PC): From the menu (if you can't see it press Alt or F10) go to Edit > Empty Cache.
Safari (for the Mac): From the menu go to Safari > Empty Cache.
For Internet Explorer users only: In some circumstances you can change IE's cache settings to always get a new version of the page from the internet:
From the menu (if you can’t see it press Alt or F10) go to Tools > Internet Options > General > Browsing History > Settings. Change the "Check for newer versions of stored pages" selected option to "every time I visit the website" and save.
