What is demographix?

Put simply, demographix is the ultimate online survey, questionnaire and data capture tool.

What do I need?

To design the survey you need Internet Explorer 5.5 or later, Firefox, Safari or Netscape 6 or later. Our tests show that you're not using one of these browsers. At least 95% of Internet users have a browser from our standard list. If you really have no option but to use your current browser you may still be able to use demographix - please contact us to discuss this further.

What browsers do you support?

The survey designer needs the browsers mentioned above. People completing the survey can use most other browsers.

How big can my survey be?

You can have as many pages as you like and as many questions as required on each page. The only limitation is how many questions you think people will answer. Each survey can have up to 1000 questions or other items such as free-standing text. However external programs you export survey data to may have some limitations.

Can I include images?

Of course! The demographix survey creation system lets you upload images from your computer so they can be included either as free-standing graphics or as options in a single or multiple choice question. And if they are the wrong size, demographix will resize them for you.

Don't all demographix surveys look the same?

Not at all! You can customise the look and feel of each survey, choosing fonts, colours, spacing and background images if you wish. Most of our users build their surveys to look like their corporate or brand websites.

How do I make the survey available?

There are three ways to give people access to your completed survey:

• You can use the URL we provide as a link on your website or in an email. When people click on the link they go straight to your survey.
• You can set up a 'redirect' on your web server, so that your customers can access the survey from www.yourcompany.com/yoursurvey/
• Or if your site uses frames then the survey pages can be displayed within your own frameset

How do people respond?

When people have completed your survey there will be a 'Submit answers' button available which will add their answers to those already submitted.

How do I get the results?

To view the progress of your survey just log in to the demographix website and select the appropriate survey. You will be able to:

• Check the date and time when the first and last responses were received.
• See how many people responded on each day since the survey was published, and which part of the world they came from.
• View a summary of the results showing the percentage of responses for each available answer to a question.
• Create cross tabs which tabulate the responses to selected questions against another specific one (e.g. age range or other choices).
• Filter the answers so you can analyse and cross tab just a selection of your responses (e.g. just men or people who don't already buy your product).
• Download the raw data of all, or a filtered subset, of the responses to your survey in Microsoft Excel or tab-delimited format.

What about security?

We take the security of your data very seriously. The demographix system is protected by secure passwords. Only you (or your colleagues and clients if you have this option) can access your survey data. The URL which is used to display the survey itself is deliberately complex to make it almost impossible for anyone to have unauthorised access to your surveys. And, of course, our servers (located in a secure data centre) are password protected and located behind a number of security systems to stop intruders.

Who owns the data?

You do! All of the data collected using your surveys is yours. Demographix will only access that data for the maintenance and development of demographix and its services.

Can I transfer my survey response data into other programs?

As standard you can export the responses as a native Excel or CSV file. For a one-off fee we can provide the facility for you to download your responses in a set of data and syntax files ready to import into SPSS. We can also add additional export functions to your account if you want to transfer data to your corporate databases or data warehouse.

I'm just too busy - can you do it for me?

Yes, no problem! We can manage the whole survey process, from big global research campaigns down to small one-off feedback tasks. We'll do as much or as little as you'd like, and our rates are extremely competitive.
